What is microblading?

Microblading, also known as semi-permanent make-up or micropigmentation, is a form of temporary cosmetic tattooing which allows you to add long-lasting shape and colour to your eyebrows. It is perfect for anyone who has a hectic life who doesn’t have time to pencil on their eyebrows every day or for those who would rather have 10 more minutes in bed in the morning!

How do I prepare for my treatment?

Prior to the consultation I recommend that you have an idea of the shape and colour that you would like. It is also good to bring a photo along for reference; this will help me get a good idea of your desired look. If, however, you are unsure of the look you are after then I am more than happy to discuss ideas and styles with you to ensure that we create your perfect eyebrows!

If this is your first microblading treatment with The Lounge, I recommend carrying out a patch test beforehand to ensure that you are not allergic to the pigments that will be used. This needs to be carried out at least 24 hours before the treatment and also gives us an opportunity to discuss any questions you may have prior to the microblading appointment.

Please note that if you usually have fillers or botox, it is best to avoid having these at least two weeks prior or post your microblading treatment as this can impact the symmetry of the finished look.

I also recommended that you avoid drinking caffeine, alcohol or taking ibuprofen or aspirin (unless required for medical purposes) at least 24 hours before treatment as this will aid the healing process.

Any tweezing, waxing or threading should be done at least 48 hours prior to the procedure and 1 week post procedure.

Please kindly note that I carry out multiple treatments over the course of the day so it’s very important that you attend your appointment at the scheduled time. Unfortunately if you are more than 15 minutes late on the day it is possible that I will need to reschedule in order to prevent a delay for my other clients. If you are running late on the day then please let me know as soon as possible and I will try my best to accommodate.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Upon arriving for the treatment, a topical anesthetic to the area in order to minimise any discomfort during the microblading procedure. I will then begin measuring and drawing your eyebrows, ensuring they are as symmetrical as possible. Once I have finished the template I will consult with you to ensure that you are happy with the design, this will give you the opportunity to tell me if you would like any changes made. After we have both agreed on the style and shape, I will proceed with the microblading treatment.

The appointment itself will usually last between 1.5 – 2 hours. If this is your first microblading session, you will be required to return between 4-8 weeks later in order to complete your treatment.

Kindly note that all of the blades and hand tools used throughout the procedure are one time use only and are disposed of after each treatment.

Please be aware that some clients may feel a slight discomfort, but it’s relatively pain free for most. The pain level can be intensified if you have the treatment during your menstrual cycle so please bear this in mind when booking your appointment.

What can I expect after my microblading treatment?

There may be some slight swelling and redness to the skin immediately after treatment but this will subside quickly. Please note that after the first session the treated area will appear 50% darker than the desired outcome colour and this will be the case for approximately 7 days.

After care instructions will be explained and provided after the treatment but it is important to note beforehand that you cannot get the area wet for at least 10 days and you must avoid picking the brow area. Your hair can be washed during the 10 days however you must be cautious when doing so to ensure as little water gets on the area as possible as this can impact the healing process. I will provide an ointment for you to take away with you which will need to be applied to the area for 10 days. If you follow these steps carefully then the brows should heal perfectly and the end result will be a pair of beautiful eyebrows.

What can I expect over time?

Complete healing takes 4-8 weeks, while the pigment matures and reaches its final colour. You will have a top up appointment at this time to finish your treatment (please remember that this is a two treatment process). Very occasionally, three treatments maybe required to complete the treatment, this can be caused by your skin not taking to the pigment as well as expected or if the aftercare instructions haven’t been followed correctly.

During the first session, a lighter shade is always used, it is important to remember that a darker colour can always be added but it cannot be removed and therefore it is better to choose a darker shade during the second session (if required) rather than choosing the darker shade to begin with.

On average, results can last anywhere from 12-18 months but can sometimes last longer. The longevity of the treatment really depends on different factors and your lifestyle. A colour boost is recommended once a year to retain the shape and pigment of your eyebrows.

Are there any precautions?

Clients who have medical or cardiac conditions may need a doctor’s clearance before going ahead – a letter from your GP will be sufficient. Clients who have anti-wrinkle treatments, must come before or nearing the end of a treatment. Clients on blood thinners like aspirin/warfarin are NOT suitable.

I do not recommend having the procedure done whilst pregnant as your face shape can alter throughout pregnancy and affect the finish result. If you are breast feeding, I recommend waiting until feeding ends before any microblading treatments can be carried out.

If you are due to undergo chemotherapy, it is best to have microblading prior or post treatment as this can impact the healing process and puts you at greater risk of infection.

You will be required to complete a full medical history and consent form prior to the treatment which will cover a range of questions to ensure that you are able to go ahead with the treatment.
